And here's some screenshots from yaoi-est anime of Spring 2008... monochrome Factor. Having said that, I'm not into yaoi but lurking for the last 4-5 or so years in some forums have given me a certain amount of massive immunity to yaoi. Yuri still and will always be the most favourite of mine.

Srsly he wears lipstick. I meant Shirogane, the guy in the suit and hat. Frankly, story isn't much to shout about, it's your typical generic fiction, supernatural anime. But what strikes it is the yaoi content. Also helps to have some bishounen.

Yuki's earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, when she was attacked by one vampire and was saved by another, Kaname Kuran. Ten years later, Yuki Cross, the adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, has grown up and become a guardian for the school, with two purposes: To protect the Day class (humans) from the Night class (vampires)'s fang and protect the true identity of the Night class students from being discovered by the Day class students.

Kaname Kuran, Yuki's saviour, leads the group of night class, with the help of Takuma Ichijo. But also at her side is Zero Kiryu, a childhood friend who was born into a family of vampire hunters and whose hatred for the vampires that destroyed everything he held dear, is now determined to kill them all and never trust them. And also Zero is a vampire himself. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but the question remains: Have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions? Is Kaname's infatuation with Yuki the beginning of a forbidden romance, or is it something in her forgotten past that draws him to her?

In this world of secrets, nothing is as it seems. And the price of misplaced trust may even be worse than death.

Prepare for plenty of LOLWUTs if you plan or are reading the manga. A twist or two here and there thrown in as well. However, I recommend skipping much of the current chapters from 14-26 as they're mostly the background of Zero Kiryuu and the subsequent events that happen when his arch-nemesis reappears.

The pace picks up again at chapter 28-29 and climaxes at 35-36(but i'm not going to say what! :P ). The manga itself is a good read.

Now as for the anime, it's fairly what'd you'd expect of the usual diet of bishie-type manga/anime(think Ouran or Trinity Blood). however, the animation quality is slightly disappointing. The quality of the art is rather hard and uninspiring. Also, whether done deliberately or not, the work is rather drab and the use of colors(especially on skin tones) isn't well done.

Makes me wonder if they actually used shadow and gradients to depict different light sources, folds of cloth etc etc.

But overall, first impressions are good.

First anime of Spring 2008

The first anime of spring 2008 i have watched is Kanokon.

Kanokon's story revolves around Kouta Oyamada, a young first-year high school student who moves from the country to the city and thus transfers to Kunpō High School. On his first day at his new school, a beautiful second-year female student named Chizuru Minamoto asks him to meet her alone in the music room. When he arrives, she accidently reveals to him that she is in fact a fox deity and from that day on the two hang out together.

Is this another ~~FURRY~~ ookami/kitsune anime adaptation or is there something more under the surface?

We've all seen Spice and Wolf, another anime which also happens to have wolves in it as part of its theme(or the main female lead, rather) in addition to the economics/trade angle.

Then there's also Wagaya no Oinari-sama which will also be aired this month.

However, Kanakon happens to be a "love story" of sorts between the main character, Kouta Oyamada and the fox deity, Chizuru Minamoto. And may i say, she's 400 years old and has a nice set of boobs. Nice as in big, i would've said soft, but i can't touch them now, can i?

Moving on(via the manga, not anime, SPOILER ALERT!), there will be other new characters, including one that will vie for Kouta's love and affection. If you do want to know more, visit Wiki as i won't post anymore spoilers here.

One other thing, Kouta happens to be a first-year highschool student. Whereas Chizuru happens to be a second year student. :O Add that to the fact that she's a fox deity and....... (also wants to have a relationship in sin)

This isn't exactly a classic but since it's Mamoru Oshii who coincidentally also did Ghost in the Shell and Urusei Yatsura, it's good.

Having watched this as a 13-year old, i never did actually understand the story at the time. So when i happened to see this available, I immediately snapped it up. And it was in BluRay format too, which meant remastered video and audio to 5.1 surround.

And dare i say it's a superb quality rip? I'll let the screenshots do the talking. I've taken only a few screens from the anime(it's an hour and 41 minutes long).

This is a alternate/parallel timeline to Japan post-World War 2 but expect to see German weapons aplenty in this full length anime film. The Karabiner Kar98k, SturmGewehr 44, MachinenPistole 40, MaschinenGewehr 42, Luger pistol and C96 Mauser are and still are popular weapons in game and anime fiction and as such are the mainstay of alternate Japan.

Kedah student scores 20 A1 in SPM, beats earlier record of 17 A1

PUTRAJAYA, Wed:

A new Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia genius has emerged. Azali Azlan, 17, of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Yan, Kedah, scored an unprecedented 20 A1 and 1 A2 to beat previous record holder Nur Amalina Che Bakri, who scored 17 A1 in the 2004 SPM examination.
The middle child of teacher-parents, Azali studied nine of the 21 subjects he took on his own because they were not offered at his boarding school. He also did not attend tuition classes, except those offered by his school.

Azali attributed his overwhelming success to his parents and teachers who sourced for him books for the additional subjects he took.

Azali, described by his teachers as an overachiever since his primary school days, said he did not impose a tight study timetable on himself to avoid stress, but studied when he felt like it.

Described as an overachiever eh? Do i laugh or don't laugh? No comment? How do you take that statement of trait?

“Of course you have to consistently 'feel like it.' I studied everyday. I also did a lot of prayers, watched my diet and took the advice of my headmaster to consume a lot of dates, honey and milk. When I thought there was nothing more I could do to best prepare myself, I decided to fast throughout the exams,” he said at the ceremony to announce the SPM results at the Education Ministry here today.

How does one consistently 'feel like it'???

Azali obtained A1s in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Science, Accountancy, Higher Arabic Language, Economics, Commerce, Geography, History, Malay Literature, Arts, Tasawwur Islam, Al-Quran Education and Assunnah, Syariah Islamiah Education, Islamic Education. He scored A2 for English for Science and Technology.

Tasawwur Islam, Al-Quran Education and Assunnah, Syariah Islamiah Education, Islamic Education... these seem pretty redundant to me. Maybe he did it for the lulz?

Azali stressed that said he took the 21 subjects for his personal satisfaction, not to beat records. “To me, it is meaningless if I did it only to break records. Actually, I only decided to take 21 papers after my SPM trial which I scored 18A1 and 3A2.”

Azali admitted that pressure to excel did at one point almost got the best of him but he overcame it after meetings with his counselors as well as talks with his parents.

A ‘Nilam’ award winner (given in recognition of champion readers at state level), deputy prefect and school debater, Azali, who was in the first cohort of Form 1 students to be taught Mathematics and Science subjects in English in 2003, said he answered his papers entirely in English. He wants to pursue a degree in biotechnology, abroad.

His proud parents Rozita Sanapi, 46 and Azlan Othman 51, who teach in Penang were also at the ceremony. Rozita said his son had since young, shown a very keen interest in education and reading.

“When he was in Standard 6, he would ask me to buy workbooks for all subjects and would finish at least five in a week and studied till wee hours in the morning. He always sets his targets and achieves them,” she said.

Azlan said he had talked Azali through the pros and cons of taking 21 subjects and supported his son’s final decision to do it.

Do not that i'm not trying to ridicule or criticize him or anything, but this just goes to show the absurdity of the education system here in Malaysia. Hishamuddin... you gotta do better man. Don't turn our education system into a laughing stock. As are good but having too many As ISN'T GOOD AT ALL.

Appleseed Deus Ex Machina

First impressions:

Graphics and Animation: WOW! 9/10 for Graphics. Way better than Appleseed 2004. A very big improvement. However, only a 5/10 for Animation. Facial expressions are still rather frozen. Especially on Deunan. Though it's understandable that there is a lack of emotion in the bioroids(due to the fact that they're genetically made to have no negative emotions), the human elements in this movie still lack a little of the human touch. Even the "emotionally expressive" moments between Deunan and Briareos were rather tepid. Though Briareos no longer has a human face or body, i was expecting more emotion from Deunan. GATTAI!!! between human and cyborg still needs work.

Story and Plot: Oops! *falls flat* Kind of weak this round. Much weaker than Appleseed 2004. But at least it was consistent. Not many/little holes this time round. Some flashbacks to Deunan's past with Briareos. Then there's the third party thrown in but then ravu turiiangaruu falls flat at this stage.

WTF Moments: Plenty! I'll be damned if i didn't find a somewhat familiar scene/s and eat my laptop. From Final Fantasy to The Matrix, you name it.

Spoilers ahead! Beware!

The fight scene with Briareos and Deunan vs the cyborg terrorists in the opening sequence. Short of calling it gun-kata or something out of Matrix, what would you call it? Heck...the way Deunan moves you'd think she was a super-cyborg or bioroid, not a human being.

GACC 2008 Day 1 - Day of Days

Long post... beware.

Just got back from GACC08 last night so i'm kind of tired at the moment even though i slept for at least 5-6 hours last night(I blame elfenrir because he wouldn't stop snoring). Anyway, a very successful event which i no doubt must thank the emina club of MMU for.

As Shin said in his blog(link goes to first day's happenings) and to which i quite agree with, there are two types of ACG or Cosplay Convention type events that happen in Malaysia.

And i quote,

"There are two kinds of anime conventions in Malaysia. First are the poorly executed promotional events by game companies to advertise their lineup of MMOs, with a booth or two selling anime on the side and a cosplay competition set up to draw in the crowd. The other, is a an event organized by fans for fans which encompasses everything otaku related, minus the heavy sponsor presence. Thankfully the event I just attended fell under the latter category, and I have to admit, it’s the damn best local anime convention I’ve ever set foot in. It’s also events such as these that turn the usually timid and reserved me into a raging OVER 9000 weaboo otaku. "

Thank god for the lack of weaboo at this event, which is a rather nice when compared to the power levels I experienced at last year's Comic Fiesta 2007 anime/cosplay-con(which is touted as the most popular but may yet be upset by GACC)

ACF2008

So liek...went for ACF yesterday(2-day event) and a leeching(so-called) session with some of the /b/rothers from /AS/. Kind of wasted RM5 on ACF as there weren't many people(probably due to lack of support from the anime/manga community in Malaysia and a lack of publicity) so it wasn't that much of an event.

Did get to see e-jump and Exiled along with their fellow peeps from The Figure Mall having a figurine display(inc. today 24/2/08 with different figurines for both days) having a display booth which was noticeably smaller than last year's booth at CF. E-jump kindly explained that it was because they were there for two days and planned to split the figurine display into two days rather than display all(or rather some, never know how many those guys have lurking) on the same day since they rented the booths for only one day on CF.

Next week will be GACC'08(MUAHAHAHAHA!................... joking joking) so i'll make another update when i get back. Expect lots of pictures.

Gotta get meself a good camera. (T_T)

Star OtakuZone Fest?

Some of you may not know it but there is news of The Star newspaper's Otakuzone column wishing to hold a GACC/CF like fiesta for anime fans.

However, this event is pretty much in the early stages and depending on how well the idea is received, we might be getting some star seiyuus(voice actors) and maybe... MAYBE cosplayers from Japan.

I do know that GACC08 will have the attendance of Masakazu Morita who happens to be the seiyuu of *drum roll* .................... Kurosaki Ichigo from Bleach. YES! GOOD NEWS, ALL YOU BLEACH-TARDS! ICHIGO IS COMING TO TOWN!

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. *cough*

Angpau Value vs Year

I have noticed over the years that the amount angpau received is roughly proportional to the year it is given. Over the last 5years, the value of angpaus has increased a fair bit due to the rise in cost of living, the allowances given by parents
to their children and the fact that kids today are more spoilt.

Lazy to make a big post but the gist of it is...

If you're married, be prepared to fork out a lot of money. Kids nowadays are quite demanding when it comes to angpau. What used to be a tradition is turning into a sort of ~~money-making~~ extortion by kids and some of them are not adverse to openly commenting about how little they've received.

I’M a 16-year-old boy. I like reading your column because I think it is really helpful. I am writing to you because I am having a serious problem that has been plaguing me for a long time.

The main cause of my problem is my fraternal twin sister. We shared the same room until we turned 12. After that, I decided to sleep in another room because I wanted my privacy.

Even though we had separate rooms, she occasionally sneaked into my room at night to sleep with me on my bed. I told her we were not supposed to be sleeping together, but she said she just wanted to be near me.

She also touches my private parts in bed. This happens all the time and I can’t take it anymore. I have told her off and even begged her to stop it but she’ll respond by telling me that I can touch her, too.

Furthermore, when I tell my parents about it, they tell me that she is my sister and it is okay for us to sleep together. They don’t believe me when I tell them that she touches my private parts. I know, I have strange parents and they always side with my sister.

But the incident that really scared and disgusted me happened last month, when my parents were abroad.

I was showering in my bathroom when she unlocked the door with a key and came in naked. I yelled at her to get out immediately, but she wouldn’t.

Macross 25th Anniversary Convention

Yea, like uhhh... went for the 25th Macross Convention on Saturday(yesterday) in Taylor's College. Held at one of the lecture? or was it exhibition? halls at the main campus. Hannah Tan also in attendance for the event. Too bad though, kind of ignored her.

*Facepalm.jpg* because she's not much of an anime fan though she's the Animax Ambassador. Kind of sad that though it was a Macross event, she isn't much into the know.

When giving out information is too much

Pardon the english(it is LYN after all) but the discussion thread is here.

So when does giving out your personal information means you're forfeiting your privacy? Phone numbers, bank accounts, names, signatures, etc... with the advent of the internet, sharing information has never been simpler, or faster.

But then there's the question of privacy. When is giving information too much information? It's a subjective matter, if you ask me. Some are comfortable giving out information such as their addresses, phone numbers, names. Particularly true if you run an online business from home or with the arrival of what we call a blog, the grey areas become even grayer.

With the innovation of blogging, there's been a surge of people who've used blogs to connect with friends and family, social blogging. Not to mention now that blogs are also attracting criminal elements within society itself. Paedophiles, stalkers, wolfx(just kidding) to name a few.

Not only blogging but there are also inherent dangers in surfing the bits and bytes that make up what we call, cyberspace. You never know what is around the corner, feeling all secure and anonymous when actually, YOU'RE NOT! IP addresses are a big part of the internet, big enough that the first six digits from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx will tell which country you're from and probably which location you are too, if you can convince the ISP to tell you.

All the while when you're surfing the internet, your IP is pretty much open to websites, homepages, servers and the like. Unless of course, you're putting your connection out via proxy which conveniently masks your IP. Unfortunately, most home users don't take this precaution because hey, they're home users after all. Even i don't do this as it's time consuming(and i am a gamer as well).

So pay attention. Be careful of where and when and what you surf online.

Rosario + Vampire Manga

Been meaning to post this the last few days but I've had other things in mind that i had to do.

So here's the review for it instead.

Do note that I'm reading the scanlated manga as i haven't found the translated volumes here in Malaysia yet. Nor do i have the funds to buy them if i do but i may change my mind.

First impressions:

OMG! It's a harem! R+V(since Rosario + Vampire is too long, R+V will suffice instead) manga is labelled as a shounen manga thus it's a manga meant for guys, so expect lots of pretty girls, boob and panty flashes and some ero/kissu/fondling scenes thrown into the mix.

However, in my previous post about the anime itself, the anime has at least 100% more panty and boob flashes than the anime. The anime itself is made up of panty flashes, come to think of it. Do note that since it's an ANIMATION, they can afford to include more pantsu scenes that what'd you'd get in the manga. The manga is a watered down ero-panty-flash of the anime.

Some of you who read the manga may not be impressed with the first two chapters of the manga from volume one. However, i would suggest you STICK with it. It does get better after the second chapter.

Now as the manga progresses, we get introduced to more and more characters(namely, girls from Youkai Academy) including some flashback characters from the first to fifth chapters of Volume 1. Notable characters include an ice queen, a succubus, witch(witches rather, and one is rather badass too!), and mixed breed youkai.

Oops, slight spoiler there. You might want to close your eyes but it's rather late. :D

Due to the manga being way in advance of the anime, i shall not post any scans from the manga. This is in keep anyone from accusing me of spoiling the story for them and also because i don't want any problems with the scanlators as this blog is public.

Rosario + Vampire Preview

Lulz... kind of rare for me to post updates twice in a day but since there's two new animes out there that I've watched so far, why not? And i was trying to decide between posting now and posting tomorrow but hey.... what the heck!

The story behind this anime is about a boy, Tsukune Aono who fails to make the grade to get into highschool. However, coming back drunk one night, his father finds a highschool entry form and then gives it to Tsukune. Little do they know that the school, Youkai Academy is actually a school for demons and monsters!

To cut it short, I'll let the screencaps do the talking! Also included are some before and after shots.

H20 Footprints in the Sand preview

First new anime of Spring 2008 that i've watched so far other than the preview for Macross Frontier, which i already have a hard-on for. GO GO VF-25!

Anyway... H20 is about the story of a boy who in a transfer student in a new school. The catch? He's in a village with his dad! His mum died and he's pretty much blind due to that incident(which isn't told) which took the life of his mother. Doctors can't find anything wrong with him however.

First impression:

Not too bad. Sort of a harem anime(not again!!!), but it's more than just your usual harem + comedy. It's more of... Myself Yourself with comedy and only one person(so far) has a dark past etc etc.

Now... as the show progresses along, it introduces a number of new characters which we may or may not see in the following episodes. There's the seito kaicho(student council president) who also happens to be the clumsy one(Nerine-type), the moe(Miyuki-type) one, the bossy one(Mariya Mikadou-type), and so forth and so forth.

There are several pantsu/ecchi scenes in the first 10minutes of the show. Kind of usual for this type of anime, if you don't mind me saying.

Wha's new for the new year and what passed?

Damn... accidently closed the window so this is a re-type and it's totally different from what i had in mind.

2007 has not exactly been a good year nor has it been a bad one. It was sort of in the middle. To summarize on some of what's been done or has happened in 2007...

1) Completed my Foundation and studying for my degree in network engineering

Can't believe it but... i'm there! Finally! Doing my degree that hopefully will lead to the job that i'll be doing for the rest of my life.

2) Gained weight

Not something I'm happy about but at least I'm not underweight now.

3) Gotten a spanking new laptop

Well, it did have to go to the ICU but I'm very happy it's back.

4) Watched MOAR ANIME!

Yes! I did! More than last year and the year before. The world of anime in review here

5) Bought quite a number of games.

Shucks... wasted my money on Medal of Honor: Airborne. But Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts are both worth the money i spent. Day of Defeat: Source is great but i can't find any players in the Singapore servers.

Hasn't started airing yet. It should be by this week. I forsee a lot of pantsu, fanservice, gore and sex according to what i've seen so far in the trailer.

GUNSLINGER GIRL -IL TEATRINO-
Following the manga? Not too sure as i haven't seen any trailer of any sort but i have high hopes for this anime. I extremely enjoyed the first season and i hope this follow-up will be just as good

Minami-ke ~Okawari~
It looks as though the animation may differ slightly from the original but then again, it is a finely balanced anime that wouldn't take much to ruin so eyes peeled and ears wide open.

AYAKASHI
For having a similar title to TWO, yes, TWO other animes that almost seem to be from the same genre(different father, same mother maybe?) this anime has genericism(is this a new word?), and blood and gore written all over it. I'm not passing on this anime just yet. It's going to take more than an episode for that to happen.

Macross Frontier

Due to start airing in April. Episode 1 has already been aired and so far it's good. No more Zentraedi but there's the issue of aliens attacking the Frontier fleet.

Oops... spoilered it slightly didn't i?

Never matter, there's plenty left to look forward to. I'll say this though, I'm getting a lot of SDF and Macross Zero vibes just watching this FIRST episode. The male char, Alto reminds me of a certain Shin Kudo and Lanka gives off that Lin MinMay feel from SDF Macross.

Hard to say, but things are looking up! Into space!

Some stuff I've obtained and done over the last two weeks:

1. Company of Heroes : Opposing Forces (game)
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (game)
3. Went to ComicFiesta 2007
4. Re-obtained laptop (hurrah!)

As you can see, I've obtained two games and gone to one event, bought two games and gotten back my laptop as per previous post.

I have found so far that Call of Duty is what i expected it to be. Not short of expectation, since you can't expect much just from previews and a demo but it's all worth the money. Much better than Chewxy's review of his Crysis.

The same goes for Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces though it went way beyond my expectations. Hurrah to both developers and publishers for giving us fans what we want and not what they think we want.

Going to go gaming again tonight in the CoD servers. Until the next post, GAME ON!

Aoshi has now returned to the land of the living! My laptop is back from a 3week and 3day hiatus. Still have no idea why the motherboard decided to go KAPUTZ! all of a sudden. But i'm glad it's back. Now i can get back to my downloads.

Been missing Minami-ke and Gundam 00 for the last 3 weeks because my dad's old Fujitsu can't play both without stuttering. No doubt due to the 1280x720 format that i download to watch.

Turning one year older and the future

I turned 19 a few days ago(last week, actually) and while i may not look older, i certainly feel older. Anyway, the point is, is age now no longer objective but instead subjective? I have always held to the belief that age is subjective and up to open interpretation as it is only a number. Of course, the transition from child to teenager to adult IS still rather fuzzy as you can have the looks of a 18 year old but have the mind of a 26 year old though you may be a 21 year old.

Anyway, I've certainly got a few things to look forward to. Among them are the completion of my degree and my aim to complete my final year in the UK and of course... to get at least a second class lower degree.

Night Wizards

Gundam 00
This new Gundam smells like a dash of FMP has been added to the soup pot. However, they're not called Mithril, they're called Celestial Being and the G-Pilots are called Gundam Meistars. Reminds me of Mai-HiME and Mai-Otome.

This Gundam is t3h CHUBBY. Like my uncle's dog in Australia that incidentally has the same name.

Yes yes, i haven't been updating for awhile... What does a guy got to do to keep his drive to update his blog eh?

In a few weeks time(around two i think) it will be my B'day... Yaheewww..... i'm becoming older. But wiser? Not too sure about that. Makes me wish i was back in primary school. T_T

1) I'm bitch!n on IRC a lot now. Find me in #shinsen-subs and #ayako. Leave message but do not expect reply.

2) Kaze no Stigma and Heroic Age both are hitting their climax(that didn't sound wrong, amidoinitrite??). Both are going to end pretty soon.

3) Marathoned Code Gayass(Geass :P) last Friday and Saturday. It was all going well until it got to episode 20 and then it started to smack of Gundamn. Something must be wrong, the animatorsof CG are in cahoots with the animators of Gundamn because Suzaku is starting to sound very much like Shin Asuka.

4) WAHA! Sky Girls Episode 7! Just saw it today. No spoiler though. I think I'm giving away too much info.

5) Merdeka is approaching. 31st August 2007. 50 years on and I'll prolly be in bed snoozing. HELL YEAH! FREE HOLIDAY!

6) Got banned from #shinsen-subs on Sunday night. Funnily though, most agree that the ban was unwarranted and the OP was probably emo. I'm still banned however.

7) We did it for the lulz.

8) My degree has started. Classes begin next week though. Another week of messing around doing nothing.

Episode 6 - Nanae's Secret（ななえのほみつ）

This episode is pretty much like a filler. However, some there are a few critical parts that one should take note of.

WARNING: SPOILERS!

1) The destruction of the West German base in Germany. A dark object lookin like a Worm is shown early in the episode.
2) The escape of a child from the city wearing a military uniform. Could she be someone related to they Sky Girls? Or have something to do with the Sky Girls project?
3) This episode covers Otoha's discovery of an extra large bra and she then tries to find the rightful owner.
4) The Sky Girls face a Worm in the simulator for the first time. Lieutenant Colonel Togo questions the motives behind the sudden change in the practice session.

Sweet...from Tuesday last week, my classes have begun to end and yesterday was the last class I had for my induction period. So in two weeks time, it's back to class only this time i start my full degree!

In the mean time, I'm ON HOLIDAYYYYYYYY!!! Two glorious weeks of doing nothing but lurking in front of the pc. I still am thinking of finding a job though, not too sure about those plans yet.

And I've completed RahXephon this morning as well. The ending was nice but sad... *sniff sniff*. Hey, i may be a guy but guys have feelings too. On the other hand, i am getting comments from friends that i'm watching a rather lot of anime.

Still can't compare to some of the guys in LYN though.

Oh, and i found a parody of Dragon Ball this morning. Not gonna say which anime it came from though.

More pictars!

Overall: I give it 8/10. There are a few more loli-type animes out there in recent months and i won't say this is SUPER-BEST yet. After all, this anime leans more towards the mecha genre. Aside from the lolis which of course, are extra eye-candy.

Quality: A certain amount of cell-shaded animation. Hell, even Appleseed was cell-shaded heavy. Gives it a good touch, if you ask me. And do watch tis in H.264. I do not recommend the Xvid version.

Sidenote: The "neko-tail" is the connection between the pilot and the unit. It somewhat reminds me of EVA. Hahahahahahahahaha... but it's cool though, never yet seen an anime that has an unique utilization of the "neko-tail"

This post is for random stuff that has happened since the last post.

1) I've collected my Zen Neeon 2! Yes, after three patient weeks waiting due to my little *ahem* accident with my beloved MP3 player...*sigh* and it being sent in for RMA, I've got it back.

Best of all, they gave me a totally new unit although the back plate is now orange and looks kind of fugly.

2) My sis has started her driving lessons. I can only pray she wasn't as bad as i was after her driving test which incidentally, one may only take one month after they get their L license.

3) Dinner tonight, two friends coming over for popiah. One whom i haven't seen since Form 1. Even then i've seen him probably once or twice during that time.

4) ANIME ANIME ANIME! I've started downloading a new anime(well,not actually that new) that goes by the name of Sky Girls.

It's part mecha, part loli. LOL WUT!? Yesh, it's loli. Oh lawd, i came!

With this warning shot, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said the government would be taking legal action against bloggers who flagrantly belittled Islam or the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He told the Dewan Negara yesterday that three laws could be used against the bloggers: The Internal Security Act (ISA), Sedition Act and Section 121b of the Penal Code.

What crap is this? Are you going to hold bloggers using the Internal Security Act next? While i do find that the ISA may have relevance in certain issues pertaining to national security, i find that using the ISA just because someone wrote an article that may or may not insult the country on the internet laughable and despicable. It gives the government justification to hold indefinitely anyone that they want or deem should just because an article seems(depending on the viewpoint) to be an insult to the Agong and Islam!

Speaking at the Malaysian Press Institute Press Awards Night here yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government was deeply troubled by the growth of "irresponsible" alternative media.
"In the name of freedom, these websites allow the broadcast of slander, lies and swearing, the use of harsh, degrading language and racial slurs without regard for the reader or those concerned," he said."Even though the government has been tolerant of anti-government positions and criticisms on the Internet, we are very concerned about statements that insult religion and reek of racism."

If you want to fight what you call "slander, lies and racial slurs" by all means do it on the internet as well! Other countries have such problems but i don't see them making such a big noise over it. I can assure you like any other multi-racial and multi-cultural country, there are dissents and conservatives that have plenty of spleen to vent against other races and religions and cultures. Just take a look at the United Kingdom or even the United States!!!

Tolerant against anti-government criticism??? My DEAR MINISTER... look at where people have such outlets of greviances in other governments...they have Freedom of Speech. What do we have? So how do oyu expect us to air our greviances when the government refuses...wait make that ignores what it's citizens ask.

CELGames 2007!

After a week of tough battling, XEF+MBT(Or XBT as we were known in the tournament) won third place AGAIN for CELGames 2007.

Wasn't bad at all as we were the underdogs. A mixed team that never played together and with not a lot of teamwork and coordination coupled with the unfortunate circumstances when one member couldn't make it at the last moment made our prospects look bleak.

We lost our first two matches but then bounced back in the third round with the unexpected arrival of No_fear who came back from Sarawak that same morning!

XBT rebounded back to win its next three rounds and secured third place.

The prizes for third place are:
1) A Corsair 512MB Flash Voyager Flash Drive
2) Raptor-Gaming Mystify Mamba Mouse
3) A medal (made of real metal too)
4) RM200 in prize money

The investigation continues into Sunday’s bizarre dog attack involving a pit bull and a 2-year-old boy. Lockport Police Detective Capt. Larry Eggert said they are interviewing more witnesses in the case and meeting with dog behavioral experts to try and figure out what motivated the dog to sexually assault a young boy.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in a Washburn Street apartment. The dog, a 2-year-old pit bull named Bear, reportedly sodomized the boy during the attack. Eggert said the boy’s mother was in another room when the incident occurred. “She left the baby alone for a short period of time,” he said. “She heard a scream, she ran in the room and saw the dog and the boy.”
The woman began yelling at the dog, which spooked it, causing it to run outside, still attached to the boy, Eggert said.

The dog dragged the boy out onto the porch, where neighbors saw what was happening, he said. “They heard the mother screaming,” Eggert said. “Together they were able to disentangle the dog and the boy.” The toddler was taken to Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, where he remains after having surgery Sunday night. Eggert said he may need further reconstructive surgery in the future.

Niagara County SPCA Executive Director Al Chille said the dog was still being held at the facility on Tuesday and will remain there pending the police investigation.
The pit bull had been with the family for two years and had no history of aggression, Eggert said. A DNA sample was taken from the dog to compare with DNA taken from the boy to ensure the attack actually did take place, he said.

Eggert said investigators plan to sit down with the Niagara County District Attorney’s office to determine if any charges will be filed. “It’s not a pleasant case to have to work with,” Eggert said. “It’s almost unbelievable.”

BenQ S41 Review Part II

Here is Part II.

For part II, I've done some work on a few games to test out the gaming capabilities of the S41.

The games I've tested:
-Conpany of Heroes
-Battlefield 2142
-American Conquest: Divided Nation

Company of Heroes:

CoH is a graphically intensive game and i used it to test out the capabilities of the 8600M GS that's bundled with the laptop.

Pros: Smooth, constant frame-rates throughout the entire game. It lags less than when it used to run on my old Amd Athlon XP 2500+, 1.5GB RAM, 7600GS. No doubt due the the extra 512MB of RAM and 8600M GS and dual core processor. The bottleneck used to be at my processor neck but is pretty much negated now

Cons: I tried some settings set to high or maximum but the 8600 will only handle it in normal gameplay. Any effects like artillery explosions will leave the frame rate sluggish and laptop chugging.

Reccomendations/Verdict: CoH shows that as a gaming laptop this is only an average machine. So you can't push the S41 too far.

Battlefield 2142:

BF2142 is a FPS-based shooter and i used it to test the frame-rates. The S41 actually performed above my expectation with 60-70FPS while playing. The frame-rates were constant but it could be higher as this was tested with bots. FPS should be higher without bots due to the decreased load of online gameplay. The only hindering factor is the internet link between my laptop and the game servers.

Pros: Everything runs extremely smoothly on the S41 at all medium. High settings don't make a difference but only drags the performance of any PC down the scale so it's not tested.

Cons: BF2142 doesn't support widescreen so you're left with two black strips at both corners of the screen.

Reccomendation/Verdict: I'm very happy with the S41 on BF2142.

American Conquest: Divided Nation

If you've played games such as Cossacks, Cossacks II and American Conquest, you'd know that this is a processor and RAM intensive game. Up to 5, 000 or more units can be on the screen slugging it out in pixel combat not including those that are off the screen.

Cons: Gameplay is sluggish when there are more than 5, 000 units in the game. No doubt due to processor and RAM limitations, things start to drag once the game is in full swing.

Recommendation/Verdict: If the S41 had the T7300 and above and 4GB of RAM, this game would be in it's comfort zone.

BenQ S41 Review Part I

I received my new laptop yesterday... the BenQ S41. I picked it up at 11.30am on Friday morning which was rather late considering that the shop was supposed to be open at 10.30 but the person holding the key didn't arrive until 11.15 which made th laptop dealer give some rather apologetic words to my dad.

Anyway, as promised in http://forum.lowyat.net, i shall now proceed to give a review of the new S41.

To start things off...

Processor

The processor used in the laptop is the latest T-series, P-socket Core 2 Duo processors from Intel. It boasts the latest second-generation of Core 2 Duo processor code-named Merom. What comes with the new 'Santa Rosa' platfrom as it is called is the introducton of 802.11n wireless technology. Santa Rosa also delivers longer battery life for laptops incorporating this latest technology and a boost in processor performance as well.
For the S41, it uses the T7100 C2D processor which has a clock speed of 1.8GHz and a Front Side Bus(FSB) of 800MHz.

The advantages of the Merom is that it provides a boost of 20% in performance but still uses less power than the Yonah-based Core Duo. This means that you use less battery power which to any person on the go is very important.

For me, I find it a distinct advantage as i do some part-time gaming besides using the laptop to complete my college assigments and projects.

Graphics

Because of the new introduction of Santa Rosa introduces the new DirectX10 graphics cards to laptops, the S41 is bundled with a built-in nVidia 8600M GS 256MB GDDRII(Turbocache 1GB). This means that the laptop is pretty much Vista Ready and DX10 ready. In other words, as a gaming laptop, it's only an average machine.

It will allow you to run most current games at Medium if not High settings which in my case, is more than enough. A laptop is after all, a condensed, mobile version of a desktop and thus cannot run equal to a full desktop(not counting the Alienware-series gaming laptops).

Features and Functionality

The laptop comes with a variety of extra add-ons and features. Among which are Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n standard. It also comes with Bluetooth which is an optional part of the whole package.

The S41 has a display of 14.1" and maxes out at 1280x800, which is the bare minimum for a widescreen LCD. However, it does have a disappointing response time of 16ms at 1280x00 which does not bode well for those who plan to play fast-paced games like First Person Shooters(FPS'es) on the S41 as ghosting effects may be present.

Among the I/O are 4 USB ports, of which two are conveniently located on either side of the laptop. Interestingly, the rear of the laptop doesn't have any I/O but are confined mostly to the left side while the majority of the right side contains the 8x Dual Layer DVD-R/RW drive. The laptop also comes with a HDMI output allowing you to plug the laptop into a HD-capable device like an LCD TV of which the Sony Bravia series is an example.

The audio, while not giving much punch in the bass department consists of a pair of 1.5W speakers that are HD ready. The laptop comes with a button for SRS TruSurround XT enhancement located above the Function Keys.

Also included is a 1.3MegaPixel QEye webcam. This webcam while small isn't bad at all but is still rather slow. Meaning you'd better not make sudden moves if you want to have a clear picture of yourself transmitted to another person watching you on MSN or while you're having a video-conferencing call.

School scams? Are students being cheated without knowing it?

We all know how schools have a limited funding and budget provided by the government. Most of the time though, the amount provided isn't enough to complete projects like school beautification and/or other construction related projects that may include filed upgrading, the construction of a new school block and hall.

In response to such underfunded projects by the government, many schools have come up with various ways to add to the school's coffers. Money mainly comes from the PTA(Parent Teachers' Association). But sometimes this is not enough.

The school then has to look for other alternative means to cough up the necessary cash to pay for the work being done and one of the ways it does so is through say... a charity ball, a charity run or an Entrepreneurs' day aka HARI Keusahawanaan or HARI Kantin.

Most of the time students take a large amount of the profits from such activities... usually Hari Kokurikulum or Hari Kantin. However, what i heard discussing my sister's Hari Keusahawanaan left me in a state of shock and disbelief.

In her school, each class has been set a target of RM2000 to be made on that day. While i do not know the penalties involved if one does not reach such a target nor if there IS such a penalty, i do know that the school takes 90% of the profits from the students. YES...you heard me right, 90%!

Let's do some calculations based on the 90/10 rule.

Assuming each class has an average of 18 students, from Form 1 through Form 5 and there are 8 classes in each Form...

18 * 8 * 5 = 720 students

Now assuming RM700 as a reliable target instead of RM2 000...

8 * 5 * 700 = RM28 000

So the school makes 90% of that amount based on the 90/10 rule that has been enforced by the school.

So,

(90/100) * RM700 = RM630

The school takes RM630 leaving RM70 for the class.

Now take RM500 as the money that the class has spent for buying their raw materials..

Canned Drinks(RM100)
Food(RM350)
Utensils(RM50)

Wouldn't it seem that the RM70 ISN'T ENOUGH TO COVER THE COSTS to recover the lost amount from the raw materials to begin with? They would have to make at least 8 times the amount of the RM700 to regain their losses.

I see it as a scam, no matter what the school would say. I'll bet any Economics or Business students for that matter would certainly see that there is something seriously flawed.

Never mind that the students are spending time and energy to make the event a success, the school takes a 90% bite out of all the profits made by the students' hard work!!!

And another matter i want you to pay attention to is their school concert. The concert is organized BY the school and they get the students to participate in it, all the while those like me, who would've paid to go watch the concert are refusing to do so because 100% of the profits go to the school. I would've expected the students to receive something for the effort but NO! Instead the school gulps down all the money I SPENT, instead of giving some back(i don't care in what form, they deserve something) to THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES AS A SHOW OF APPRECIATION!!!

While the school may argue that it's putting back the money into the amenities provided by the school..i fail to see why it has to eat 90% of the profits. The 10% given to the students doesn't even begin to cover their expenditure UNLESS they make at least 8 times the amount they've spent.

I see this kind of event as something for the students to learn HOW to make money, not for the school to profit wholesale from it. If the school wants to take a share, go ahead, but don't make it 90%!

Laptop Delayed!!!! AGHHH!!

Oh yes... i am in the process of looking for a new laptop to replace my F***** up desktop that i lost awhile back no thanks to a botched replacement of the processor heat-sink. (Why did people design capacitors, big ones to sit around the processor anyway???!)

Did i mention that the Fujitsu comes with a remote control? Yep, as you can see from the picture, it does come with a remote control! How cool is that!? Your every day laptop doesn't just come with a remote, and a HD-DVD drive to boot.

The Good:
1) BenQ and Asus both have the new Santa Rosa laptops. Coming into the market very soon. Give it a week or three and there'll be even more Santa Rosa laptops.
2) BenQ and Asus both are cheap. Retailing at RM4399 and RM4499, you can't go wrong.
3) Both come standard with an 8-series MOBILITY graphics card which is what i want. DirectX 10 and Windows Vista will both be the new standard for the next few years to come.
4) Fujitsu has excellent after-sales and Customer Service support. Whereas you can call and both BenQ and Asus will send a courier to pick up your machine if you do require some technical support beyond your own home. Futjisu has a service centre right in Tropicana on the other hand.

The Bad:
1) Haven't had any experience with BenQ and Asus so far. Only experience i have is from what people have said.
2) My dad's using a Fujitsu and he's pushing me to get one too.
3) Fujitsu is slow at updating to the new Santa Rosa technology so i may have to wait an extra 2-3weeks.
4) I NEED MY OWN PC!!!

Undergraduate studies

YESSSS!!!! I have now graduated to my undergraduate studies aka degree. Though my average is somewhat in the 50zone, i'm happy to advance to the degree-level of my education.

As some of you may or may not know, I'm now doing an induction course for Computer and Network Engineering. You heard me right, BSc. of CNE. The sad part that it's a Bachelor in Science course and not a BEng. or Bachelor of Engineering that i was looking at.

You may notice that this blog post would've coincided with the previous Streamyx rant. I will not continue Part II as in my opinion ranting all you want until the cows come home about Streamyx is a waste of time and bandwidth. Not that they'll read this blog anyway!

Because i am also a lazy bugger... and to add the fact that i can't pictar spam because my PC isn't working, there will be no pictures of girls in mini-skirts, /b/ nor /ac/ for the foreseeable future.

Btw, I'm trying to decide between a HP Pavilion dv9000, a Toshiba Qosmio G40/F40 and a Fujitsu N6420 as my next replacement for my desktop. You'll notice that they're laptops... no thanks to my parents who insist i get one.

Leaking? Why yes!

It seems that a few(rather, two) of our Member of Parliaments have leaky mouths. Obviously, accusing another fellow MP(and an opposition one at that) would cause some unwanted problems.

Apologize? HELL YES, but wait! She's from an opposition party! Then sorry, no apologies!

Over the last few days, I've been reading a multitude of blogs, online newspapers, forums etc etc. What i've seen so far is very troubling. Corruption is rife in our country, price hikes are incoming to say to least.

However, my rant now will be concentrating on our internet service provider(ISP) TMNET. Applause please!

If you're a fellow Malaysian, I'm sure you would've realized that for the last week or so your connection may have random timeouts, frequent disconnects etc. However, the most obvious of all is the fact that your downloads are slowing down. Hitting 5kB/s on a 1Mb/s line?

Why step up, young man!

Why is it slow? Well let me explain.

First of all... let's start off on how our ISP works.

1) Obviously, the first step is to sign up for the service.
2) You get a technician to come install the line for you(Or if you're one of those DIY kinda people, you'd get the modem and DIY)
3) You get online and the speeds are great, >75% effort for 2weeks to a month.
4) Your internet slows down... surfing is sluggish to say the least. Downloads are capped to 20kB/s at night
5) You call up Customer Service. They ask you to do the standard procedures;
A)Restarting your modem
B) Resetting your pc(Obviously, you've done this 1xx times already)
C) They offer to reset your port( DOing so sometimes helps)
D) If all of the above fails, repeat with Step A

Worst of all is when you do call them up multiple times an all they do is give the standard answer(read above). Never mind that you've done it 100 times, they still insisit the fault lies on your side though more often than not, it's theirs.

Before i forget under all the stress of having to face such a company, I'll let you know that they also;

1) Accuse you of doing something with the line though you've only done what they suggested
2) Accuse your pc of not being able to handle the bandwidth. (Where the hell does this idea come from anyway? Thanks to mH3ng who contributed this one)
3) They will FINALLY send a technician after you've yelled yourself hoarse at the Customer Service representatives. (And the problem gets fixed in 15 minutes thanks to the technician)

if you think what's above is the only problem, you're in for a surprise. It's only the tip of the LARGE ICEBERG that's called 'Service in Malaysia'.

As you may know, how one provides a telecommunications service depends not only on how one provides the service but what constitutes that service. Customer Service, Maintenance, Human Resources, R&D, Marketing and Advertising are just some of the important parts that a service must have.

Failing to properly provide any of the one such branches suggested above spells disaster. And this disaster is what TMNET is.

While TMNEt does quite well on the M&A side, which in my opinion is the only thing they're good at, they fail at Maintenance, Customer Service and R&D.

Why?

Let's take a look at the logic.

To have better services, you must have subscribers. And to have more subscribers, you must upgrade your services.

However, what TMNET doesn't understand is the fact that you need to provide better services in order to have MORe subscribers. You just can't keep adding MORE AND MORE subscribers while not upgrading the hardware.

Cosplay? Me? ZOMG o_O

You may notice that that there is a rather large gap between the previous post and this latest one.

Why?

because I've been busy with exams, my group project and also because i fucked-up my motherboard.

This is how the story goes... (well, basically)

I changed my HSF about two weeks age. unfortunately, i must've touched or broken something in my motherboard during the time i was removing the old heatsink( Socket A mobos are notorious in removing HSF, IMHO) and prolly shorted out something in the mobo. I also blame the motherboard design for this(why did they leave the capacitors so close to th processor seat!!!). And when i turned on the PC... the hard drives weren't turning. But i've checkd them out and the HDDs are FINE. PSU is fine too!

Anyway, I've never cosplayed before but i have an urge to do so this year. Expect to see me in a high-school boy uniform with a blue hood. I'll keep you guessing as to who I'm cosplaying. *evil grin*

Frankly, it's a bit of a pain to look for a uniform that no one wears in Malaysia let alone have. It's either getting a specia order, which will cost A LOT or tailoring one myself which is what I'm looking at now.

Are Malaysian kids losing their future?

I happened to be reading yesterday's NST and the top headline was "Are you robbing your kids of their childhood?".

My interest piqued, i turned to the relevant page to read about the article. It's basically a full-two page article on whether Malaysian kids are losing their childhood along with comments from kids themselves along one side and experts' comments thrown in into the article here and there.

Many children are swinging the golf clubs, taking up scuba-diving and participating in a host of activities normally pursued by adults. EILEEN NG and RANJEETHA PAKIAM speak to the parents of some of these children as well as family experts on this growing trend..

KUALA LUMPUR: Engineering class. Yoga. Golf. Go-karting. Scuba-diving. Video animation.

These are normal activities for adults. But they are also being pursued by urban children, some as young as 4.

Many parents are sending their children for these activities during weekends and school holidays. Some want to give the young ones a chance to master new skills and others, obviously to keep up with the Joneses.

And they are willing to fork out between RM100 and RM500 a month for the privilege.

Nowadays, it is rare to see children spending time at home, watching television or catching tadpoles with the neighbourhood kids on a typical weekend.

Gone, too, are the days when the typical extra-curricular activities actually referred to piano lessons, dance recitals, art or swimming classes.

Family experts have voiced concerns over this trend. They worry that overloading children with too many of such unconventional activities might lead to the loss of interest and burnout before their time.

Most parents defended their actions, saying that their kids were, in fact, enjoying themselves as these activities gave them the chance to meet and have fun with friends.

Some said they were merely acting on the interest shown by their children, while others wanted to give their kids the opportunities they never had in their own childhood.

The National Population and Family Development Board’s Family Development Division director Dr Anjli Doshi-Gandhi said many parents wished to give their children an edge over other children from a young age.

"With heavy competition among parents and children today, parents are fast-tracking their children into entering a competitive environment, thus risking their kids losing their childhood in the process," she said.

"Parents tend to forget that childhood is a time of joy. They must remember that there is a time and place for every development in a child’s life. "As it is, life is going to be stressful, so let them enjoy themselves while still young."

By burdening their children with such activities, Anjli said children might become stressed out and turn into "zombies". She said sometimes parents had such high expectations that they neglected to be attentive to their children’s needs and development. "The sad thing is they forget that their child will have lots of opportunities later to show their potential."

Anjli said some of the activities parents sent their children to these days were getting more sophisticated, such as golf and go-karting. "Who knows, they might come up with extreme sports such as bungy-jumping next! Where will it stop and what is the purpose of sending your children for these activities?"

Anjli remembered the time when children used to climb trees and play in the mud.

"Now, such things are unthinkable for urban kids. Their lives are getting more programmed, structured and scheduled.

"Spare time is regarded as wasted. What about encouraging them to indulge in hobbies at home such as reading, or just playing?"

Marriage and family therapist Datuk Dr Mat Saat Baki said many parents thought they were giving their kids a head start in life by enrolling them in all kinds of unconventional activities. "However, it could be dangerous because the child may not get to experience childhood. Their lives are so programmed and, worst of all, they have no choice but to follow their parents’ wishes," he said.

He attributed the trend to parents living off their unfulfilled dreams on their children and the trend of upmanship or kiasuism. Some busy parents had no time to spend with their kids and so they would enrol their young ones for various activities. "These parents sincerely believe by enrolling their kids in these classes, they are providing a better future for them."

As a result, Mat Saat said, some children might love the classes, but there could be some who would turn rebellious once they hit puberty. He said parents needed to ensure a right balance in their child’s life so that a child would remain a child. "You can send the kids for all kinds of activities, but it shouldn’t be all at once. It should be something a child enjoys instead of making it compulsory."

Women, Family and Community Development Ministry’s board of counsellor president Datuk Dr Mohd Mansor Abdullah said children, especially the young ones, should not be sent for activities that were too strenuous and advanced. "At that age, they should be given activities that will build their emotional, mental and spiritual well-being," he said.

He added that sending the children to such classes is akin to unconsciously relinquishing parenting responsibilities to another party. "It’ll be better if they spend at least an hour of quality time with the child instead of sending them to all types of classes and activities. It will foster better understanding and love within the family."

Universiti Kebangsaan Malay- sia clinical psychologist and lecturer Dr Alvin Ng Lai Oon said the trend of sending children to such classes was healthy as long as they found them enjoyable. He said it was beneficial for children to be exposed to various activities that gave them different experiences, which would later help them in their lives. Citing an example, Dr Ng said yoga was good for children to develop their social skills.

"While it’s quite common for parents to want the best for their children, they have to be careful not to over do it and pressure the kids. That’s when fun turns to a chore and they start to lose interest." He agreed that some "ambitious parents" sent their children to such classes as they wanted to show off to their family and friends about the achievements of the young ones. "To these parents, I caution them to re-look the reasons why they want their children to participate in such activities. What exactly do they want their child to learn?

"So, you want your kids to be super clever. But my question is, will they be able to cope with life’s experiences? Parents need to be aware that there’s a limit to everything."

My first though was... what happened? I had a rude shock after reading that kids as young as 3 or 4 were being sent to ENGINEER APPRENTICE CLASSES. Being an engineering student myself, it's hardly unsurprising to see people think of engineering as a field that is hard on math but kindergarten kids? Hey, i don't expect them to do stuff like listen to someone lecture on Materials Science or do Engineering Math but WOW!

What happened to childhood? I remember at the tender age of 3 and 4... i was busy running around with my friends in kindergarten! Going to the park in the evening after school finished and having an afternoon nap were among the things i did as a kid.

Talk about worker burnout, these kids would face burnout on an even earlier stage. They'd have nothing to relate to their OWN kids about the things they did as kids. No memories of having FUN.

Another thing that shocked me was that kids as young as 11 were being given scuba lessons. Putting aside the fact that it costs a lot(i know because i got my open water license at 15), it's nothing short of amazing to see kids taking up scuba lessons. Hey, never mind the fact that your parents are rich, let's strap a tank onto your back so you can go scare the fishies!!!

The fact is that kids that young are still growing and it would hardly be practical to expose them at such an age to explore the sea. And strapping at least 10kg's of equipment onto their back isn't either. Even the smallest tank is at least the height of a 4-5year old. I think it's just one more way of having bragging rights.

Parent #1:
"My son can do the timestable up to 20 times!"

Parent #2:
"That's nothing... My kid can scuba dive."

besides, kids will touch anything they want to at that age. Saying no will only increase their desire to do so. Nothing like someone screaming their head off after touching some fire coral, no?

Deadline

RAWR...just completed my Community Service last Friday. It's a nice change for once doing projects, to actually go down to the ground and participate.

The kids at the orphanage were quite an energetic lot. I think they don't get that many visitors and specially 26 at a time. It got to a point where when we were about to leave, the kids wouldn't let my coursemate go home.

They gave him a nickname too. GIANT. It was funny to see him mobbed yet a bit sad because they've attached themselves to him.

It's now getting very hectic for me as I've got plenty of matters to attend to. The end of my course is near and i have to choose the next course i am going to take. Quite a headache actually.

Will post more updates soon. This entry is short as i've got a brain drain. Listening to High and Mighty Color doesn't help either.

FINALLLLL COUNTDOWNNNNNNN!!!!!111!!!

About three weeks are left of my remaining semester. And one wonders how the future would be like.

UNFORTUNATELY...

I have a final report to complete for my group project... individual at that too. I think some people are sadistic in that sense to make everyone in the group prepare an individual report. Pity the lecturer who has to read at least 8 reports for the Foundation students let alone for 80 final year students.

I demand an explanation for this utter faggotry! We must not waste paper!

On another note, tomorrow is the day i do Community Service! This is part of my assignment for my LAN Subject. My lecturer, bless her soul, has let us decide whether to do Community Service or do a report on the differences between two religions in Malaysia. Somehow or another, probably 90% of the class decided on Community Service.

One cannot help but see lolis albeit orphaned lolis there. Pity that their parents abandoned, could not afford them, or they were unwanted. If i could...i wouldn't mind adopting one.

So yesterday was April FOols' Day. So....

I've noticed over the years that April Fools' Day is becoming less and less of a fad. Dropping popularity and all that. Could it be that Asian Values and traditions are making their way back into society? I think not!

Anyway, though it seems to be dying, the quality of such jokes increases every year. Lowyat.NET spread an article on its forums and webpage about forums being nationalized by the goverment of Malaysia and there was also a piece on Mat Cemerlangs aka Mat Rempit.

In other places that i lurk online, Tokyotosho spread the news that it had been bought over by a licensing company for anime. Huh? Well last year... when when anyone tried to go to the site during AP Day, they'd get rerouted to a US gov site, namely the FBI that said that "YOUR IP has been logged for illegally downloading....."

THAT gave me quite a shock actually. Imagine cold sweat running down your body as you read the words.

I wonder what would happen if the internet were to take a break during APril FOols' Day?

Anime.. is it porn? The controversy

So again this subject is breached. For those not in the know, KOSMO!, a malay daily printed an article last year on anime being porn. Apart from showing a picture of CDs that were taken during a raid showing shops in Lowyat Plaza selling hentai(as it is called), the article went on to generalize ALL anime as porn.

This resulted in massive protest and a flood of letters from the anime community in Malaysia. Thankfully, it never did raech the ears of politicians who undoubtedly would flock like ants to sugar and taken sides over the article.

The controversy doesn't end here however. A new article, this time released by Harian Metro, is the second Malay newspaper to release an article which has thrust this controversy into the limelight again.

However, what this has done is to pour fuel onto an already smouldering fire since the previous article by KOSMO!.

Recently in the news, there has been reports of pirated CD busts in Johor. This is attributed to the latest tools in fighting piracy, namely two dogs, yes... dogs, specially brought in from the UK to fight compact disc piracy.

As a result of their successful efforts in 'sniffing' out the goods, a bounty has been placed by piracy syndicate kingpins on these two animals.

But that's not the main concern.

My main concern is the fact that even though a ceiling price was mulled by the government a year or two back, recording companies rejected the ceiling price and continue to price music, games and other DVDs according to the market price/exchange rate.

I;ll bet you that currently, no more than 20% of the Malaysian population actively purchases original DVD and/or CDs. I'm doing a very very rough estimate so if the numbers are wrong and you have concrete info from other sources, do not hesitate to tell me.

Malaysia has a population of 27million. So 20% of 27million would mean;

Pardon the calculations as i'm using a mathematical software to do the calculations

ans =

5400000

5,400,000 of Malaysian buy original DVDs/CDs anually.

Now the current prices of such discs range from RM50 to about RM190 depending on it's quality, whether it's a gold disc, first edition, rare edition etc etc.
However, for this calculation... we will take an average of RM90 for one disc, be it a game OR movie OR music.

So,

EDU» ans(5,400,000) * 90.00

ans =

486000000

That works out to around RM 486,000,000 in revenue. Bear in mind the cost of tax and other miscellanious costs such as shipping and packaging are already factored in.

Now compared to the alternative...

If we have a ceiling price of say, RM30? This time... 80% of Malaysians buy the originals and NOT the pirated stuff.

21600000
21,600,000 of Malaysians now buy original CDs/DVDs.

That about RM648,000,000 of revenue for recording companies.

Comparing both values... it's quite obvious that the ceiling price would work out better.

However, please bear in mind that this could be fatally flawed as i don't have access to figures other than the population of Malaysia(since the last census) and prices of compact media. I also do not have access to the revenue of recording companies nor do i have exact numbers on how many Malaysian actually BUY original CDs.

This is MY observation and MY study on the situation. The above is a very very optimistic view so take it with a pinch of salt.

Granted...this is quite old actually, a few months back but it does bring back some laughs.

Especially midway through the clip when the mamak waiter starts screaming hysterically that they don't serve pork. But i do admire the two guys who recorded this clip. They got balls to do stuff like this for which i am thankful i don't.

Not that i don't have balls meself just that i don't think I'd do something like this.

I went to college this morning only to find out class was cancelled! AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! WHERE ARE THE SPARTANS!!!! ATTACK THE COLLEGE!!!!!!!!

Best part was when a friend showed me a sms notifying everyone that class was cancelled, EXCEPT ME! Most probably that message got lost in circulation so i'm not gonna blame anyone.

I must admit that more pretty girls should stand in the rain and purposely get their clothes wet.

Incidentally, I've watched 300 after downloading it(i'm too cheapskate to pay RM11 for the ticket you see) and it is well, I've never seen so many half-naked men on a screen before(actually, going to the cinema alone isn't fun at all). But at least there are scenes of nudity that you may not get in the cinemas.

Upgrades, Randomness

I've just upgraded my PC as of last night. Flashed the BIOS plus inserting the extra 512MB DiMM that i obtained from a friend(i owe him some money now :) )

I now officialy have 1.5GB of RAM. Compared to when i had 1GB... my games load much faster.

This coming Friday, the 23rd of March, incidentally is the annual KBU College Prom Night. Sad to say, i'm not going but I do have coursemates who are (after being blackmailed by someone in the Student Council to go) xP.

You may notice that my style of blogging consists more of short posts within the span of every few days upto a week compared to some long posts made by some of the other bloggers whose URLs I've added to the Links.

Reason being is because I'm more of a casual blogger than a serious one.

So shoot me. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

It seems that the previous post was spammed by uhh...some characters.

Anyways, I've been adding tons of new movie OSTs and anime OSTs over the last week or so. TMNUT pha1ls for throttling speeds when they advertise it as unlimited.

Back to OSTs, the latest added is the OST from "Music and Lyrics" starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. i give this a 7/10 because Barrymore has a rather scratchy rough voice compared to Hugh Grant who has a smooth voice.

I have just downloaded and am now listening to Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru's Drama CD1. But before i elaborate further... a quick flashback to what Otoboku is all about.

Miyanokouji Mizuho is a student at Seiou Academy All-Girls School. However, all is not what it seems.

Mizuho is actually a boy, who in accordance with his grandfather's will, enters the same school as his mother. Soon, he becomes the talk of the school and gains the title of "Onee-sama" or elder sister.

"He" is touted as the most beautiful student in school and is also athletic at sports and has high marks for exams.

Back to the Drama CD1.

I have just finished listening to one part of it. It concerns a day(not in the anime) when Mizuho gets to go shopping with "his" classmates and good friend, Maria-chan, Kana-chan, Yukari-chan and former Onee-sama Shion-sama as she is commonly referred to.

Needless to say, if you'd listen to the files... you'd get a hard-on if your fetish was for cute girls, notwithstanding the fact that Mizuho is after all, a guy.

And i do admit that it comes to a point where they go "ahhh...ohh..kyaaaa". VERY VERY EROTIC. But then, why make it sound as if they're having sex?

Been watching two new animes plus having a blast on Company of Heroes for the last week or so.

On another note, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone. I've collected plenty of angpau this year. xD A BIG BIG thank you to friends and family who've given me angpaus.

The two new animes i've been talking about earlier are Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou and Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight.You may have noticed that both concern schools, both are animes and both have abnormally long names.

So the verdict is... the trend for animes in 2007 is for abnormally long names, they are concerned with school and they're surprising good.

So much for the good part, both animes are as different as apples and uh... cakes? Manabi Straight is more of an anime set in the future where birthrates have declined and schools do not have enough students. However, the style is distinctly loli-ish, something you may want to take notice of.

Tokyo Majin however, is a more serious anime with a darker theme. It concerns mainly about a group of students in Tokyo who find they have special powers and they all use those powers against evil that is spreading in Tokyo.

Malaysian Bloggers Sued Part II

A few updates to the current "situation". Both RockyBru and JeffOoi have agreed not to post in their respetive blogs with regard to any articles, comments or posts regarding the defamation suit which may result in articles,comments and posts being prejudicial to the fairness of the trial process.

Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi has hit out at bloggers and websites for spreading "lies after lies" to discredit his government.

He says they have exaggerated issues and want to "rubbish" his administration.

"I know there are people who are trying their best to ridicule me. They make a mountain out of a molehill. They just want to rubbish me," the Prime Minister said in an interview with the New Sunday Times, the weekend edition of the mass-selling New Straits Times (NST) newspaper.

Datuk Seri Abdullah did not single anyone out, but his fiercest critic last year was former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, who accused him of mismanaging the country and the economy.

Apart from a news conference a few weeks ago in which he attacked PM Abdullah, Tun Dr Mahathir has remained silent since suffering a mild heart attack in November.

When asked why a particular group in cyberspace was trying to discredit him, Datuk Seri Abdullah replied in the interview that they were people "captivated" by electronic media, including SMS.

"They feel they are free, they cannot be disturbed and they can say whatever they wish to say. They do it (post comments) anonymously," he said.

He added: "This sort of freedom has made them resort to such action (of spreading lies and making unfounded allegations)."

The bloggers and those who operate websites have also created stories to attack his administration, the premier said.

"Lies after lies are being told. To them, everything is not right, everything is not good."

The premier's criticism coincides with the first legal suit filed against bloggers in Malaysia.

The New Straits Times Press (NSTP), publisher of the NST daily, is suing bloggers Ahirudin Attan and Jeff Ooi for unspecified damages and is seeking an injunction to prevent them from continuing to post objectionable material.

The publishing company contends that 48 postings by Mr Ahirudin and 13 by Mr Ooi defamed its deputy chairman, Datuk Kalimullah Hassan, group editor-in-chief Hishamuddin Aun, and former group editor Brendan Pereira.

Some of the issues brought up by bloggers and news portals had also caused frustration within government circles, with the prime minister himself coming out to deny them.

Last month, PM Abdullah denied that he had bought a RM30million (S$13million) yacht after reports surfaced on the Internet saying that he had gone to Turkey to view the vessel.

Last week, he denied reports -- again on the Internet -- that the government was using unknown companies to raise US$50billion (S$76.8billion) in project loans.

In the past few days, the buzz on Malaysian websites has been whether the government has ordered a new US$50million luxury jet for use by top officials. Officials have yet to confirm or deny the claims.

Datuk Seri Abdullah had earlier backed NSTP's right to sue the bloggers, saying that they were not above the law and that their owners had to be responsible for content on their sites.

During the interview with NST in the Swiss city of Davos, where he attended the World Economic Forum, Datuk Seri Abdullah said he would not be deterred by distractions coming out of cyberspace.

"If I allow myself to be distracted by all this, I will not be able to do any work. That is what they want, that I not focus on my work," he said.

Alright, so i was lazy for a couple of weeks and didn't post anything. But hey, i've still got the X'mas spirit. So Merry belated X'mas to everyone.

I would've posted a really nice picture but i can't connect to Imageshack due to the international link in Taiwan that is down due to an earthquake just this morning. And after reading the news, it seems that there are people in Taiwan that are trapped in the rubble of some collapsed building. No to worry, i read that it was just a furniture shop.

However, because of this act of nature... the internet is really really SLOW. I can't connect to some sites in the US and even loading blogspot is slow.

I'll post the picture soon. When Streamyx is back to normal.

Before i forget, there was NO OFFICIAL statement whatsoever from TMNET. Even the site has reverted to August for some reason. That is your Malaysian IP for you.

I went for gaythering on Saturday, the 9th of December, which meant yesterday.

Haha... as usual, it turned out to be a 'batang' fest. All guys, no girls thus the connotation 'batang fest'.

Was a great outing all the same. I met with forumers such as Reon, Aeon, Travel, Eden, K-End, hariz, eilrach, carson, coz131, yurusei.

And yea... they called me "pervert". One wonders what one deserves to get such a name. Plus they didn't lower their voices down and probably everyone within a 5m radius heard it!!!

Coz, as usually, according to information i've gleaned from the others, has a way of not attending the gatherings. So I've put my vote for him in the forum's 2006 Awards as Hardcore FFK'er(it means indian offer).

Medieval 2 Total War

Just bought myself a copy of the sequel to Medieval Total War, Medieval 2 Total War. Having spent RM129 on this, after not getting my satisfaction guaranteed in the pirated DVD(no seriously) it's well worth it. I've always been a fan of the Total War series ever since i happened to play a custom battle in Shogun Total War on my friend's PC.

Now i can gloat to people that my originals pwn urz... *SWT*

What happens when you take a host of cavalry versus a host of archers? Naturally, the cavalry loses! Not to worry, i was the one playing the archers.

Arrows are raining ala Gladiator(the movie..the movie...not the person).
